In this article about why race is important in collage admissions they talk about character. "The character of our students is relevant to the quality of our leaders." I believe that this is true. The reason I think this is relevant in this article, is because our character is formed with the experiences that we live. They say in the article; "Rather, our point is that race can be an important, if not essential, aspect of the life story of many applicants and that our ability to assess the individual character of these applicants would be crippled by a rule forbidding us from considering applicants’ race." Some peoples life experiences, or the challenges that they have overcome may be related to race. If they are, I believe that they should be acknowledged. After all every experience one lives through makes them who they are and gives them character. Someone with good character will be a good leader, so I agree with what the article says; about race, and character.
The article also says "Race is sometimes an important and relevant factor in group discussions both inside and outside of the classroom." I agree with this. Race has been a very important topic over the years. There are many discussions about it, some good and some bad. Some people usually act differently when they talk to people from a different race, and this topic has also been an important matter of discussion. I think that when discussing about race, people who have lived through situations that involve it should be able to share their experiences. Like the article says "Exposure to people with different backgrounds, ideas and views also helps to prepare students for the practice of law, the work of businesses and nonprofit organizations, and the challenges of public service." The knowledge that they can gain by learning from other peoples experiences and ideas is very important for the practice of many different careers including law.
